Jehovah’s Witnesses, can you explain John 17:11 in the NWT?
“Also, I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world and I am coming to you. Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name which you have given me, in order that they may be one just as we are.”
It appears that Jesus is saying He has been given Jehovah’s name. is this your understanding?
Vot, the other translations I own refer to Jesus beign given those he is praying for. This is not clear in the NWT rendering, hence why I am asking. It was something new to me to read.
John 17:7-8: They have now come to know that all the things you gave me are from you; 8 because the sayings that you gave me I have given to them, and they have received them and have certainly come to know that I came out as your representative, and they have believed that you sent me forth.
“I came out as your representative”
John 17:3: This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:9-11: For this very reason also God exalted him to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every [other] name, 10 so that in the name of Jesus every knee should bend of those in heaven and those on earth and those under the ground, 11 and every tongue should openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

John 17:6: I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word.

Jesus plays a very important role in the sanctification of Jehovah’s name.
We are also trying to imitate Jesus’ example:
Acts 15:14,17: “Has related thoroughly how God for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name. In order that those who remain of the men may earnestly seek Jehovah, together with people of all the nations, PEOPLE WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, says Jehovah, who is doing these things”.
Jehovah has given his name to us too… to his people…
